Sophie of Sønderho

The ship Sophie sailed for many years without incident, but capsized in 1880 off the coast of Hanstholm during a severe storm, in which four of the six crew members drowned. The first mate and the cabin boy were trapped in the capsized hull, which drifted toward the shore. For four days, they survived on syrup and coffee beans before fishermen found them. The shipwreck drew significant attention in the press and became the subject of both short stories and songs.

Sophie is a blend of two Imperial Stouts; one brewed with coffee, lactose, and aged in red wine barrels, and one brewed with pure malt and aged in brandy barrels, which gives the beer plenty of power and mouthfeel.
